Amsterdam

after many hours onboard with Emirates, we landed in Amsterdam.  We quickly found our accommodation, about 500m walk from central station and before anyone had the chance to put their head to a pillow we flew out the door and headed for the canal cruises, where all 3 kids promptly fell asleep, I also saw Nic sneak a little shut eye.  It was a little rainy with lightening and thunder, but it was still lovely cruising along the canals.  We ate dinner st a burger join not worth too much of a mention - the kids didn't eat, they propmptly fell asleep at the tables - cheap dates :)

On our first morning, after breakfast at Omelegg, we took a bike tour around Amsterdam city, 15kms over 3 hours.  Totally recommend We Bike Amsterdam - they were the only ones I found willing to take kids too.  The kids loved it, a highlight for sure, the street s are frantic with cyclists and the guide made it easy for u to all feel confident being a part of it.  Charlie, being under 7 rode up front in a "cabbie" attached to Nic's bike - he wasn't fond of Nic's newfound biking skills, but really everyone had a great time.  We got on/off here and there while our lovely guide talked about a few things along the way.  We were keen to return the following day and do their Country side ride- but it wasn't to be, the weather was wet and windy.
We ended the first day by taking the tram out to the VU hospital where Banjo was born, he wanted to see it as well as the apartment where we lived for 6 months in Amsteelveen.  We walked around and up the canal I used to walk Banjo along in the mornings to get him to sleep.

The following morning we were al up ear;y again nad being wet we decided to abandon the bike ride option and headed over to the Van Gogh museum, we spent almost 3 hours there, the kids were very buy over the 4 levels with their audio guides making sure to complete "the highlights" audio tour.  I personally didn't realize just how young Van Gogh was when he died, 37.

In the afternoon we found a typical Dutch cafe for lunch, Nic loved it as it was simple fresh and super cheap.

Today is our last morning here before taking the train to Paris.  We are headed over to the north side, we'll catch a ferry to The Lookout building for Amsterdam views and if we have time go to the Nemo science Centre.
